- The Great Depression Begins - The great depression began in 1929 and lasted for over a decade. It was a stockmarket crash that became known a Black Tuesday. There were around 25% of people that were unemployed and affected farming, construction, and other industries. Most of the world was affected and was the biggest depression of the 20th century.
